Why do air conditioners explode?
Air conditioner has become an essential part of our life especially in summer. But did you know that even air conditioners can have a blast hazard. This is a rare occurrence, but it is important to know how this can happen and how to prevent it.
Cause of blast in AC
Electrical fault : Bad wiring, loose connection or short circuit can cause blast in air conditioner.
Gas Leakage: An explosion can occur if there is a gas leakage in the refrigeration system of the air conditioner and the gas comes in contact with any flammable source.
Overheating: If an air conditioner is turned on too loudly or does not cool properly, it can overheat and explode.
Fault in maintenance: If the air conditioner is not regularly maintained and serviced on time, it may cause malfunction which may lead to explosion.
Misuse of Turbo Mode: Turbo mode is usually for faster cooling of AC, its prolonged use is harmful.
What to do to prevent explosion in AC?
Electrical Safety: Make sure the air conditioner is installed by a professional electrician and check the electrical safety from time to time.
Regular maintenance: It is important to have the air conditioner regularly maintained by a qualified technician, especially when the AC is rented from a local provider. Apart from this, servicing of AC is required after about 600 hours of use.
Leakage check: If you smell gas coming from the air conditioner, turn it off immediately and call a technician.
Avoid Overuse: Naturally AC usage increases in extreme heat, but excessive cooling and prolonged use should not be avoided.
Correct use of turbo mode: Once the room cools down, the turbo mode should be switched off and the AC should be run at normal speed otherwise the load on the compressor increases.
